29.8.21 – the 40th Ötztal Cycling Marathon!

The Ötztal Cycling Marathon is considered as the most demanding in the Alps. Around 4,000 racing cyclists have set themselves the goal of reaching the finish line again this year.

The route of the cycling marathon leads over a total of 238 kilometers, from Sölden to South Tyrol. Along this route, 4 Alpine passes - Kühtaisattel, Brenner Pass, Jaufen Pass and Timmelsjoch, as well as an incredible 5,500 meters of altitude with a gradient of up to 14% must be overcome. In order to complete this demanding route, absolute top performance is demanded of the participants. The fastest among the cyclists will make it to the finish line in a record time of just over seven hours.

The Timmelsjoch High Alpine Road will be temporarily closed from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on August 29, 2021 due to the bike marathon. From 19:30, when the last starters have also completed the strenuous final stage, the Timmelsjoch can be crossed again. Exceptionally until 21:00 p.m.!
