General advice for travellers

All facts you need to know in relation to your trip to the Timmelsjoch at this time of the year.

Many people ask themselves what kind of equipment is required for a trip to the Timmelsjoch. Especially in autumn, when it is foggy, and the streets are wet due to the rain, this is an important question. If you decide to go for a trip to the mountains in September, you should be well-equipped and prepared for a sudden onset of winter. Therefore, if your car is fitted with summer tyres, it is recommended to carry a set of snow chains in the boot. Please check our website for the latest news regarding mandatory equipment (winter tyres, or summer tyres plus snow chains) and whether the road has been de-iced: timmelsjoch.com

If the temperature falls ten below 0° C, we highly recommend fitting winter tyres, because the grip is much better, and the stopping distance is significantly shorter. You can enjoy the most beautiful driving experience in the Tyrol every day from 07:00 a.m. to 08:00 p.m. There is no specified day for the road closure in winter; it all depends on the weather conditions. Usually, the summer season lasts until the end of October, but it can already start snowing heavily in the middle of October. In this case, winter has arrived, and it will stay. Consequently,  we will be forced to close the road earlier.

However, if the weather is perfect and nature presents itself in the most beautiful autumn colours, you will arrive at the Crosspoint, where homemade delicacies await you in the panorama restaurant. The restaurant is open daily from 09:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.

In order to complete your Timmelsjoch adventure, explore he brand new motorcycle experience world. On a floor space of 4,500 sqm, numerous unique items are exhibited – a fascinating experience,  not only for Old-timer fans. You can explore the museum every day from 10:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.
